Comments
The lyrics on this album are particularly razor -sharp and the music in each case perfectly matches the words. The production is crystal clear and the playing by everyone is brilliant (no surprise there then ).Thompson's singing is sincere, impassioned, and committed, as usual. There isn't a weak song on the album. My favourites are Reckless Kind, I Still Dream, Yankee Go Home, and Can't Win. Would definitely recommend this album to anyone interested in Richard Thompson's work. Incidentally, there is an error in the CD booklet, in which Ally Bain is credited on double bass. As Wikipedia correctly states, Danny Thompson played double bass, and Ally Bain played violin.
this entire comment section reeks of boomer.
"we can handle think our own "? Yep, go ahead and speak German. Get down on your knees and thank God we sent our young men to save your English asses!
i AGREE, AND i'M AN aMERICAN FROM THE deep south, WHERE ALL THE BEST POPULAR MUSIC ORIGINATED.
Fantastic, eye-opening track. Although it's "set" in the 40s this song is far more meaningful to those of us in the 21st century who live in nations still military occupied - in whatever guise - by this cancerous "state" called the "USA". Get out. Leave us alone, and crawl back under your stone.

Calling all Americans Yankees is like calling an English man Irish! Yankees are people from the northeast us. People from the Southeastern part of the US are nothing like them. We have better manners and still talk more like our English and Scotch-Irish ancestors did.
What an amazing tune. Mickey Curry on drums. Timeless tune. Has he played it live.
A little scared to share it on Facebook. He goes for it here.

Great song! He should play it live in Texas.
How come? Is there a lot of carpetbaggers there?
I just wanna see their reaction.
Amnesia (1988) is an excellent Richard Thompson album!
I don't think Richards ever played this live or am I wrong? I have seen him many times and once a few years ago he was asking for requests. I shouted out for "Yankee go home" amongst all the others shouting for songs. He stopped looking in my direction and gave a funny look but ignored me. Oh well that's life I guess.
The only bad thing of this song is it ends too soon.

He once asked for songs and I shouted out Yankee go home. He looked towards where Inwas sitting and just stared but didn't respond. Anybody ever hear him live sing Yankee go home?
